This drawing was made in Onomichi, after an afternoon spent up in the hills above the town.
I came down and stopped at a small café and bookshop, and ended up staying for about an hour. It was around five o’clock on a Saturday afternoon, and the atmosphere was wonderfully relaxed — people coming in, browsing the shelves, and lingering over coffee.
I sat with a drink and drew the space in front of me, focusing on the shelves, the furniture, and the figure moving quietly through the room.
The drawing is loose and observational, built up through quick, responsive marks. It felt like another small, self-contained moment in the day — sitting, watching, and drawing.
