This is the second drawing I made in Tomonoura, returning to the harbour from a slightly different viewpoint.
This time I focused more closely on the boats themselves, drawn up along the edge of the water. Their shapes, angles, and reflections gave me a strong structure to work from, while still allowing the drawing to stay loose and responsive.
The light was still soft from the overcast sky, which flattened the contrast slightly and helped the colours sit together more gently across the water.
I spent about another hour here, working into the drawing and gradually building up the marks. It felt like a continuation of the first, but with a bit more confidence in how I approached the scene.
