This drawing was made in Yanaka Cemetery on my final day in Tokyo.
It’s a place I always love returning to — quiet, spacious, and slightly removed from the pace of the city. The paths are lined with trees, and when I was there the cherry blossoms were just beginning to come through.
I found a spot along one of the paths and sat for a while, drawing the curve of the walkway and the rhythm of the trees. The red barriers and shifting light gave me a structure to work with, while still allowing the drawing to stay loose and responsive.
It felt like a very peaceful way to end my time in Tokyo.
