This was the final drawing I made on the trip, done in CIBI Café.
I had spent the day wandering through Yanaka and ended up here, in this Australian-Japanese café that also functions as a small lifestyle shop. There was an exhibition of noren hanging cloths on display, which added another layer to the space.
I sat for a while with a coffee and drew the scene in front of me — people gathered at tables, quietly reading or talking, the lanterns overhead, and the fabric hanging in the background.
The drawing is more tonal and focused, built up through observation rather than colour. It felt like a calm, reflective way to finish the trip — sitting, looking, and drawing one last time.
This replica drawing from my sketchbook can be purchased with or without the seam of the sketchbook visible. Please select your preference.
