This drawing was made at Hasedera Temple on my second day in Kamakura. I spent the day exploring the temple complex, walking up through the steps and gardens, and stopping to draw along the way.
This particular drawing focuses on one of the trees in bloom. The soft pinks stood out against the surrounding greens and the movement of the branches gave me a way into the drawing.
It was a beautiful, busy day, with people moving through the space, but there were still moments of quiet if you stopped for long enough. I sat and worked into the drawing, building up the marks gradually and letting the colour carry some of the structure.
