This is the third and final drawing I made in Korakuen Garden, after spending the day working there.
By this point, I felt much more familiar with the space, and the drawing became looser and more suggestive. Rather than describing everything, I was able to focus on the main shapes — the structure of the buildings, the movement of the trees, and the flow of the water through the garden.
It was mid-March, with that early spring palette still in place — the grass pale and slightly bleached, and the colours softer overall. That quality runs through all three drawings from the day.
A really satisfying way to end a long day of drawing.
