The sculptor Bruce Johnson is well known for his huge redwood sculptures created at his home in North Sonoma. Sadly in 2023 he was tragically killed when moving one of his sculptures. He was a good friend of Phyllis and her husband David and during my stay they took me to visit his home and studio. I was very moved by the experience. Everything is as it was when he died, his studio looks like he has literally just left to get a coffee. The whole area is full of his beautiful, monumental sculptures and before we left I took the opportunity to draw in his sculpture yard. I will remember that morning for the rest of my life- surrounded by the spirit of a creative genius.
