This drawing is of Renoir’s house in Cagnes-sur-Mer, in the south of France. I spent a day there in the summer of 2022, sketchbook in hand. The house, where Renoir spent the final years of his life, has a quiet, lived-in feeling – full of personal objects, original furniture, and even a few of his wheelchairs. The light pours in through the windows, and you can see why he chose to settle there. The gardens are lush and sprawling, filled with olive trees and views out towards the Mediterranean. If you ever find yourself nearby, it’s well worth a visit – not just for fans of Renoir, but for anyone who enjoys peaceful places with a sense of history.

INTRODUCING
Sam Marshall

My name is Sam, I'm a printmaker working from my studio in rural Northamptonshire. I've recently left London after 22 years and am now enjoying the fresh air, open skies and wildlife of my new life in the country. Miss Marple my ever faithful mini dachshund loves it too!
When I'm not making work/ running workshops / coaching from my studio then I'm travelling around the UK and Europe with my sketchbook.
