Day nine in Takayama
Day nine in Takayama
Takayama is a small city famed for its twice-yearly festival to celebrate spring and autumn. The festival involves beautifully ornate , gilded floats and culminates in a magnificent parade. I inadvertently booked my trip to coincide with the spring festival which I was excited about but sadly it rained both days and the parade was cancelled
However, I ended up drinking sake with some Japanese friends and we got talking about unusual animals - they told about the Japanese Serow which features in the print.
I print everything from my studio using a small wooden hand press and my etching press. The finished result is unique and original with no two prints being alike.

Sam Marshall
My name is Sam, I'm a printmaker working from my studio in rural Northamptonshire. I've recently left London after 22 years and am now enjoying the fresh air, open skies and wildlife of my new life in the country. Miss Marple my ever faithful mini dachshund loves it too!
When I'm not making work/ running workshops / coaching from my studio then I'm travelling around the UK and Europe with my sketchbook.
