This drawing was made at the Kobe Nunobiki Herb Gardens, located on Mount Rokkō above the city. I spent a wonderful day there, taking my time to explore the gardens and enjoy the slightly surreal 'Englishness' of the place. The gardens feature over 75,000 herbs and flowers across 12 themed areas, including a Rose Symphony Garden with English roses and a Fragrant Garden reminiscent of the European countryside.
I sat and sketched the scene, focusing on the layered textures of the plants and the charming architecture. The marks are loose and layered, capturing the lush greenery and the tranquil atmosphere of the gardens. It was a peaceful and enjoyable experience, and this drawing holds the memory of that day
