Palace of Fine Arts, San Francisco
Palace of Fine Arts, San Francisco
The Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco took my breath away. I had seen pictures of it in books and online but nothing quite prepared me for the sight itself - it is like viewing a building in ancient Rome on the outskirts of San Francisco!
It was in fact built to evoke a decaying ruin in ancient Rome and it was originally used for a big art exhibition in 1915. This is a drawing of the Rotunda, the most prominent building in the complex , surrounded by a lagoon. I had the most wonderful afternoon drawing and sitting in the autumn sunshine.

My name is Sam, I'm a printmaker working from my studio in rural Northamptonshire. I've recently left London after 22 years and am now enjoying the fresh air, open skies and wildlife of my new life in the country. Miss Marple my ever faithful mini dachshund loves it too!
When I'm not making work/ running workshops / coaching from my studio then I'm travelling around the UK and Europe with my sketchbook.
