The Palacio de Cristal
The Palacio de Cristal
During my first afternoon in Madrid, I went for a walk in Retiro park - on the hunt for the Palacio de Cristal (the crystal palace) which I had seen in many photos and was so curious to see. It didn't take me long to find it, and I wasn't disappointed. It was magnificent, especially as it was framed by the autumnal trees. The Palacio de Cristal is a 19th-century conservatory and it's formed in the shape of a Greek cross. It's made almost entirely of glass set in an iron framework on a brick base, which is decorated with ceramics.
I spent two lovely afternoons drawing it - this is the first drawing.
