Suffolk
Suffolk has become a place I return to again and again, sketchbook in hand. This linocut has grown entirely from drawings I’ve made while exploring the county, bringing together places, plants, buildings and small moments that have stayed with me.
Within the print you’ll find elements from Lavenham, Iken Fen, Framlingham and Woodbridge, woven together into an imagined Suffolk landscape. Marple is snoozing happily in the bottom corner, while I’m tucked away amongst the plants. I’m always the fox-like character in my prints.
Like many of my larger linocuts, it isn’t intended to be a literal view of one particular place. Instead, it brings together memories and drawings from different visits to create my own version of Suffolk, filled with the things that caught my eye along the way.
Each print is signed and individually hand-pulled here in my studio on my Gunning printing press.

My name is Sam, I'm a printmaker working from my studio in rural Northamptonshire. I've recently left London after 22 years and am now enjoying the fresh air, open skies and wildlife of my new life in the country. Miss Marple my ever faithful mini dachshund loves it too!
When I'm not making work/ running workshops / coaching from my studio then I'm travelling around the UK and Europe with my sketchbook.
