The Net Shops No 1 , Hastings
These tall, black wooden sheds, standing up to three stories high have always fascinate me when I visit Hastings. They have been standing side by side , on the shingle in front of Hastings Old Town for many centries. They were traditionally used as storage buildings for the fishing fleet, used to stow gear from natural materials - cotton nets, hemp ropes, canvas sails etc, which would rot in left in the open , especially when wet.
I've always want to draw these sheds so I spent a day in Hastings this summer doing just that. This is the first of the drawings.

Sam Marshall
My name is Sam, I'm a printmaker working from my studio in rural Northamptonshire. I've recently left London after 22 years and am now enjoying the fresh air, open skies and wildlife of my new life in the country. Miss Marple my ever faithful mini dachshund loves it too!
When I'm not making work/ running workshops / coaching from my studio then I'm travelling around the UK and Europe with my sketchbook.
