This drawing was made on a small side street in Yanaka Ginza, one of my favourite areas in Tokyo. I sat on my little stool with my sketchbook, attracting the attention of people passing by. Everyone was kind and curious about what I was doing. It was one of those moments where I felt completely at ease. The weather was perfect, and I had three weeks of drawing and exploring ahead of me.

I wanted to capture the curve of the street and the layered colours of the buildings. The bright yellow post and road signs caught my eye and added rhythm to the scene. The marks are loose and textured, with layered colours suggesting the light and atmosphere of the place. The drawing holds that feeling of being settled and present in the moment.

Each print is the same size as the original sketchbook page. You can choose whether to include the sketchbook seam or not when ordering. Larger prints (25 x 21 cm) are £35, and smaller ones (23 x 12 cm or 17 x 14 cm) are £30. All prints are made on archival-quality Hahnemühle Fine Art paper.

This replica drawing from my sketchbook can be purchased with or without the seam of the sketchbook visible. Please select your preference.
