Etching is a form of intaglio print making whereby the ink goes into the line, as opposed to relief printmaking such as linocuts where the ink remains on the surface. A metal plate is prepared with an acidresist ground. The image is then drawn into this ground using an etching needle.The plate is then put into a bath containing etching salts. The line that is exposed is then bitten away by the etching salts.
